The Yale Club of Sacramento President’s Annual Letter

Dear Friends,

This year has been challenging for education, particularly higher education, with drastic cuts to the Department of Education and federal research funding. Despite these obstacles, including the 8% tax on endowment income which will result in a $300 million trim to the university budget, Yale remains committed to its motto, "Lux et Veritas" by nurturing leaders and innovators for society

through the free exchange of ideas and vigorous academics with a strong sense of ethics, service and diverse perspectives. To this end, the university has raised $1.5 billion to build a 600,000 sq ft building on Science Hill for quantum computing, $1.1 billion for financial aid, and vow to protect what must never change: critical thinking. Now more than ever, we must believe in a better future and our ability to build it.

Our club supported Yale's mission throughout 2025:

  • We welcomed the Class of 2029 in April along with Redpath speaker, Assistant Professor Dr. Daniel Carrión who presented his research on Environment Health. The majority of the admittees committed to Yale at this event (including our Treasurer's son, Atticus Chan!) thanks to ASC Director, Elaine Lau.

  • We continued to clean and beautify the American River Parkway at our Annual Day of Service in May, thanks to Julia Lauper, Jim Frank, and Mark Stivers.

  • We provided a fun and food forward opportunity for young alums, some new to Sacramento, to get to know less young alums at our annual BBQ in June thanks to our gracious host, Dr. Rudy Schrot.

  • We hosted five undergraduate journalists who interned with the Sacramento Bee at a reception to support free press in August.

  • We supported regional theater by attending the Tony Award Best Play, "The Lehman Trilogy" at Capital Stage in September, thanks to Lori Abbott Moreland for providing a group discount and organizing the pre-show discussion with the director.

  • We held an engaged and invigorating conversation with Constitutional Law expert, Professor Vikram Amar from UC Davis King Hall School of Law on the Supreme Court's Secret Docket and the Future of Free Speech in October.

  • We cheered the Yale Bulldogs which beat Harvard in The Game for the fourth consecutive year in November.

Looking forward to 2026, we will continue with Feb Club, welcome the Class of 2030 at our annual Redpath event on Saturday, April 11th , Day of Service in May, Trivia Night with the Harvard Club, summer BBQ, reception for summer interns at the Sac Bee in July/August, a debrief of the impact of pivotal decisions of the Supreme Court 2025 term with Professor Vikram Amar (date TBD), and The Game Watch party with the Harvard Club in November. Other possible events may be a social with Ivy + clubs in Sacramento and a networking social. Please email me if you can volunteer to help organize events.

We extend a warm welcome to Dr. Iris Vuong as a new board member.

We wish everyone a joyful and peaceful holiday season and look forward to seeing you in the new year.

Boola! Boola!
